Maryam Abacha American University of Niger-Maradi has mourned the passing of Basirou Ousmane, the Proprietor of Halal Restaurant, Maradi in the Republic, describing his death as a great loss to the university.
Aged 55, Basirou Ousmane died on Monday , 17th August 2026 at a hospital in Damagaram, Niger Republic following a brief illness.
The President MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo in a condolence message, extended his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased over the great loss.
Prof. Gwarzo, who described the deceased as a humble personality, prayed that God forgives his shortcomings and grant him the highest level of paradise (Aljannah Firdaus).
“Late Basirou Ousmane was a friend of Maryam Abacha American University of Niger-Maradi because students patronized his restaurant,” Prof. Gwarzo said.
He said the MAAUN flags in Niger-Maradi and Nigeria will fly at half-mast for seven days in honor of the late Basirou Ousmane and in recognition of his contributions to the development of the university.
“ So, on behalf of the Management, staff and students of MAAUN Group, we extend our heartfelt condolences to everyone over the passing of “Halal” as he was popularly known by all those who knew him, especially MAAUN students because of the name of his Restaurant”.
Prof. Gwarzo prayed to the Almighty Allah to grant his parents, relatives, friends and loved ones the fortitude to beat the great loss.
The deceased who left behind his aged mother, had since been buried in accordance with the Islamic rites in Maradi, Niger Republic.
